Chicago Style Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • 3/4 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 cups oatmeal, uncooked
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 bag chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350°F. Beat together shortening, sugars, egg, water, vanilla and cinnamon until creamy. Add flours, salt and soda. Mix. Add chips and mix.

Drop by rounded spoonful onto greased cookie sheet. Bake for 5-8 minutes. Yields 5 dozen cookies.
