Gisela Enchelmayer, RIP

ENCHELMAYER, GISELA “GIGI” (SAUER), age 89, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008. She was the longtime beloved companion of the late Fred Potz, following a 34-year marriage to Carl W. Enchelmayer of Wilmette, IL, with whom she raised seven children. Gigi and Fred moved to the Westchester Assisted Living Facility, Winter Park in 2006 after living many years in The Villages and Coral Gables, FL. She was a retired receptionist of Coconut Grove Bank, Miami, FL. Her many years of volunteer work included USO, Miami; Central Florida Blood Bank, Lake County; and as a elementary school classroom volunteer for Lake County Public Schools. She was member of the class of 1940 at the University of Illinois, and a member of Chi Omega sorority. Daughter of Mira Sauer and renowned Chicago pediatrician Louis W. Sauer who perfected the Whooping Cough vaccine in 1929, Gigi grew up in the Chicago suburb of Winnetka. Her hobbies included playing cards, especially Bridge, and traveling to visit family. She is survived by her children:  Marlene Adams, Miami, FL; Carlotte Bjork, Los Altos, CA; Donna, Milwaukee, WI; Paul, Orlando, FL; Victor, San Diego, CA; Linda Schmidt, Denmark; Peter, Chapel Hill, NC; plus eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family graciously suggests donations to Hospice Foundation of America. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Baldwin-Fairchild Goldenrod Chapel, 7520 Aloma Avenue, Winter Park, Friday, March 28, from 4-6 PM.

On May 20, 2008 several of Gigi’s children gathered to scatter her remains on the beach just south of Patrick Air Force Base.
